Coping Strategies

Lose FamilyThe problem (eating issues etc) is NOT the problem,

It is a SYMPTOM of the problem

So, what is the problem?

Among many survivors there are common themes of addictive and self-harming behaviours, as well as issues with intimacy and relationships.

Some of the presenting issues might include:

  • around the use of alcohol and/or drugs
  • related to food
  • obsessive behaviours (OCD etc)
  • difficulties with sexual intimacy
  • relationships, including parenting
  • anger related

These are coping strategies that, for some, have become destructive behaviours and might therefore need to be acknowledged as part of the healing process; as new and healthier ways of being are adopted.
